Phoenix Xtra Blankets: extremely durable coating plate for water-based and UV varnishes

Printing blanket specialist ContiTech is expanding its range of flexographic printing products and will present the first-ever Laserline flexographic printing sleeve featuring a compressible layer at drupa (May 31 to June 10, 2016). This layer improves printing performance and eliminates the halo effect.

Phoenix Xtra Blankets presents the Nova Spot, a compressible coating plate, which – thanks to its special, newly developed top compound chemistry – is ideal for both water-based and UV varnishes. The specially designed manufacturing process guarantees that the top compound and the mylar foil are securely joined together. Even very aggressive UV varnishes do not cause delamination.

Another new product, the Conti-Air Duo printing blanket, was designed especially for packaging printing and has a double compressible layer. This minimizes imprints in the blanket and the cutting of edges.

"With the latest developments on the printing market in mind, we have made improvements to our product portfolio since the last drupa, particularly to our packaging printing, printed electronics, and digital printing products," says Dr. Thomas Perković, head of the Printing Blanket segment at ContiTech Elastomer Coatings. "Our three brands, Laserline, Conti-Air, and Phoenix Xtra Blankets, enable us to meet all the requirements of the printing industry. Furthermore, our acquisition of the company TEGU Walzen und Sleeves means we have been able to significantly strengthen our strategic position on the growing market for flexographic printing plates."

Printed electronics and digital printing will also play an important role at the booth, where ContiTech experts will be on hand with information about the latest developments. Together with a large consumer goods and adhesives manufacturer, ContiTech is currently developing a process that allows the cost-effective printing of electroconductive parts. More details are set to be released during a press conference at drupa, where ContiTech can be found in hall 4, booth B63.
