The FLEXCEL NX product family grows with new integrated, solvent- and VOC-free solution for flexo plate production, with which a ready-to-print plate can be produced in less than one hour.
Miraclon, the new supplier of KODAK FLEXCEL solutions, is launching a next-generation printing plate manufacturing process, the KODAK FLEXCEL NX Ultra solution, to the European market at Labelexpo Europe (September 24-27, Brussels).
First introduced to the US market in 2018, the KODAK FLEXCEL NX Ultra Solution complements the award-winning family of FLEXCEL NX products and takes full advantage of the imaging and printing capabilities of the FLEXCEL NX core technology. It is a solvent- and VOC-free solution with water-based processing that enables users to produce a print-ready plate in less than an hour. The FLEXCEL NX Ultra solution utilizes patented KODAK Ultra Clean technology developed by the Miraclon team and is the first water-based solution to deliver consistent, high-performance flexo plates in a high-throughput, low-maintenance environment.
A complete solution
The KODAK FLEXCEL NX Ultra Solution consists of the proven FLEXCEL NX system for premium imaging, the new FLEXCEL NX Ultra converting system and the new FLEXCEL NX Ultra plate, providing a complete solution for plate making. The converting system combines exposure, wash-out, drying and finishing functions in an easy-to-use, robust system with automatic cleaning cycles.
The FLEXCEL NX Ultra plates utilize the field-proven flat-top dot structure, Kodak NX Advantage technology and patented Advanced Edge Definition available to all users of FLEXCEL NX systems. The plates thus offer unsurpassed control over ink transfer during printing, providing outstanding quality and production efficiency benefits. The plates are available in 1.14 mm and 1.70 mm thicknesses. They are ideal for label, board and flexible packaging applications.
"Over the past decade, the KODAK FLEXCEL NX System has revolutionized the flexo industry, providing flexo printing with unprecedented levels of quality and performance for the benefit of all stakeholders in the packaging value chain," comments Chris Payne, CEO of Miraclon. "Our rich flexo tradition has resulted in a track record of technical innovation that enables our customers to grow and succeed. We focus on addressing complex challenges, and our KODAK Ultra Clean technology has solved the fundamental challenge of the 'inconsistency' that traditionally occurs with water-based flexo plates. This enables printers to take advantage of our industry-leading plate technology without the hassle of solvent processing. Our pioneer users in the USA and beta test customers in Europe are already proving that this robust technology enables them to further transform flexographic printing and better meet the needs of brand companies."
The first product available is the KODAK FLEXCEL NX Ultra 35 solution, which can produce plates up to 889 x 1219.2 mm in size.
