Goss International Brazil recently sponsored and presented at one of the most important events in the packaging sector, the drupa panel. Attendees were provided with details of the latest Goss technology innovations, the current packaging market trends and how web offset printing is meeting and exceeding these market demands.

At Drupa 2016, leading Mexican paper and packaging manufacturer, Grupo Gondi, signed a very large deal with BOBST and BHS Corrugated for the supply of eleven new production lines. The order will see equipment installed at existing Grupo Gondi facilities in Mexico, as well as at green field sites, over the next two years. The purchase includes two complete 2.5m wide corrugators designed by BHS Corrugated, a BOBST pre-print press line, high accuracy flat-bed BOBST die-cutters, and five automated BOBST folding and gluing lines. The delivery of the equipment will commence during the last quarter of 2016.

The future is bright for flexo print service providers. In a sector where flexo accounts for the largest share of print revenue and volume, Pira forecasts growth in the printed packaging market of around 6% per year to $535 billion in 2019. With competition from gravure, offset litho and digital (all of which also enjoy healthy growth forecasts) flexo has stepped up its game to meet the growing demands of brand owners and is giving the other print processes more than a run for their money.

Long known as the premier label printer for the big beer brands and the entire craft brewing industry, Wisconsin-based Inland Packaging has risen to prominence in new categories such as pressure sensitive labels and flexible packaging.

The new TRESU iCut plate cutter provides a fast, straightforward means of imaging flexo plates for the post-print spot coating of digitally printed folding cartons. Accommodating B2-size plates used by TRESU iCoat units, the TRESU iCut is designed to processes the same software as the digital printer, as well as the accompanying analogue coater.

The second Gallus Innovation Days event will be held from 20 to 22 September this year, again at the Gallus headquarters in St.Gallen, Switzerland, and visitors will once again be treated to a world premiere. Gallus will be presenting the first pre-series model of a new machine generation – a label printing machine that is designed for the label and packaging market. This machine boasts an innovative new platform construction and can be configured by customers to meet their own market requirements, whether in terms of the level of automation or the web width.
