70 % of the German respondents were of the opinion that food brands bear the main responsibility for the reduction of plastic waste in food packaging, according to an international consumer survey commissioned by Kemira. More than half (55%) are prepared to pay more for regenerative packaging.

While brands fight to stay relevant in this age of rapidly increasing environmental awareness, a whole host of regulations and targets are driving change in almost every business.
With new worldwide environmental guidelines and recycling targets coming into play, the UK wants to lead the fight to remove single-use plastic entirely to help combat global warming.

In 2019 the total market value of all digital packaging and label printing is $18.9 billion. The digital print market has more than doubled over the past five years in value and print volume, making digital packaging the most dynamic and fastest-growing part of the print market as corrugated, cartons, flexibles and rigid plastics follow the more established digital label production sector.

Preserving value - saving resources!

Plastic products have become an integral part of almost every area of life. For good reason. Plastic packaging extends the shelf life of food, plastic parts in cars reduces their weight and CO2 emissions. In medicine, plastics ensure maximum hygiene standards and make medical products safe. Despite its many advantages, this important raw material has come into disrepute for some time now - because of the plastic waste that pollutes entire regions and floats in huge carpets on the world’s oceans. But this problem can be solved. As the concept of “circular economy” plays a central role in this, it has become a hot topic at K 2019, the world´s flagship fair for plastics and rubber, which will be hosted from 16 to 23 October 2019 in Düsseldorf/Germany.

According to AWA Alexander Watson Associates’ latest researches, pressure-sensitive labeling continues to represent a 40% share of the global labeling technologies market, while the old-established glue applied technology claims second place, with a 35% market share, and the sleeve labeling technologies now represent a solid 19% share – and are still growing. AWA’s 2019 Labeling & Product Decoration Annual Review draws a detailed portrait of a market which, like all aspects of the packaging industry, is changing.
