The flexibility and versatility of the FlexaLAB R&D capsule filler, together with its interchangeable dosing units are the key features of the new MG2 success case study

Based in UK, Almac Pharma Services Ltd. is a CDMO present worldwide with over 600 clients including pharmaceutical and biotech companies 12 of which are among the 18 Big Pharma Companies. Almac Pharma Services offers early and late phase pharmaceutical development. Its expertise also includes pharmaceutical product launch & distribution, commercial drug product manufacturing, commercial packaging, serialization, as well as commercial storage & distribution.
The British CDMO has two FlexaLAB capsule filling machines that have been operating for several years, one at its UK main plant in Craigavon (Northern Ireland) and one at the Charnwood Campus, in Loughborough (England). And it was in this plant that the need arose to integrate the existing capsule filler, originally equipped with a powder dosing unit, with a universal tablet/micro-tablet feeding unit. Thanks to this specific unit, Almac Pharma Services will be able to satisfy its current production needs, which initially consist in feeding 2x2 microtablets, ranging from 8 up to 32 units per capsule according to the selected recipe.
Overall, the universal tablets/microtablets feeding unit allows to feed up to two kinds of solid pharmaceutical forms (such as tablets, micro-tablets, softgel and capsules) without needing any specific size parts to handle different products. This makes this unit particularly suitable for R&D laboratories and pharmaceutical companies who are filling capsules with a wide variety of solid products. Both the quantity to be fed into the capsule and the dosing accuracy can be set through the HMI for each product.
The versatility of the FlexaLAB has thus perfectly fit the customer production needs. The additional unit is installed years after the first purchase of the machine, by confirming a modular production model being ready to perfectly comply with the new demands that the market, increasingly flexible, requires to meet.
