Approximately one billion frozen pizzas are sold annually in Germany alone, and the trend is rising. manroland Goss is now also represented in this growth market with the new installation of a state-of-the-art VARIOMAN c:line. Together with a packaging specialist, a new, completely automated and process-optimized packaging printing plant will be built by the end of 2021 which will be able to efficiently serve the increasing demand for frozen food packaging.

New 7-digit project in packaging printing for food products goes to manroland Goss.
Fully automated VARIOMAN c:line with web offset technology forms the heart of the future-oriented printing plant.
Rising sales volume of frozen food in the EU currently stands at 35 billion euros; corona enhances the effect
Major project award for packaging printing to manroland Goss was successfully sealed: Together with the newly founded company, which is currently still operating under the project name ROSA, the web offset expert will next year build a technically advanced printing press of superlatives. Equipped with an automatic unwinder with web accumulator and butt splice, web cleaning, web edge control, special pulling unit plus five offset printing units, a flexo printing unit, an electron beam hardener and an inline rotary die-cutter, to name just a few highlights, the new VARIOMAN c:line will be ready for production at the end of 2021.
VARIOMAN c:line - cardboard printing at top speed
C stands for "cardboard" and focuses on the core competence of the VARIOMAN c:line: printing on cardboard in a wide variety of thicknesses. The press prints cups, folding cartons or, as in the case of ROSA, pizza cartons at up to 400 metres per minute. At this speed more than 2,500 pizza cartons of standard commercial size can be printed in just one minute, and in the highest print quality. This production efficiency provides the speed that is demanded in today's packaging market and creates decisive competitive advantages for ROSA's customers. With the VARIOMAN web offset solution, an overall production output is possible that exceeds sheetfed offset printing by up to 100%.
Variability is a must with the VARIOMAN
The system is also record-breaking: a motif change can be implemented in less than four minutes. With this impressive motif variability the VARIOMAN more than meets today's market requirements for maximum product diversity. Because the fast change-over times allow economical production even with smaller batch sizes. A further advantage is the format variability on web widths of up to 1,300 mm and format lengths of up to 914 mm. Thanks to sleeve technology, the variable-format printing units ensure significantly lower printing form costs than is the case with alternative printing processes. Consequently, the VARIOMAN solution lays the foundation for cost-effective production.
"The decisive factor in purchasing the VARIOMAN was not only the print quality at optimised costs," says Mr. Henning Diedrich, Managing Director of ROSA. "manroland Goss convinced us here with a total package that meets our high demands for efficiency and maximum automation.
Highest possible automation for the packaging printing of tomorrow
ROSA uses state-of-the-art technology along the entire value-added chain, which ensures lean processes and optimum material flow. Next year, for example, a future-oriented printing factory will be built in Lower Saxony, which will focus on a fully networked production concept right from the start. With the decision for a VARIOMAN, the company is not making any compromises in terms of automation either: The established drive, operation and workflow management system PECOM-X creates the prerequisites for ultra-modern and efficient industrial operations. The fully networked VARIOMAN printing solution thus ensures cost-effectiveness and high productivity.
Production efficiency, speed and fully optimised processes will set new standards in the packaging market at Druckfabrik ROSA.
