The Canon LabelStream 4000 series is the first UV inkjet press to be certified as "PANTONE® Capable". The colour gamut of the press has been evaluated against the full range of PANTONE® colours. The certification confirms that customers can reliably and consistently reproduce an exceptionally wide range of PANTONE® colours with the Canon LabelStream 4000 Series.

The PANTONE® Capable certificate proves that the LabelStream 4000 Series, an industrial four- to six-colour UV inkjet label press, covers 1,740 (81.3%) of the 2,140 PANTONE® Solid Formula Guide colours with the 5-colour CMYKO ink set - with an absolute tolerance of Delta E 2000 <1.5. Applying a tolerance of Delta E of 2, enables label converters to extend PANTONE® colour coverage to 96% with just five colours in the press.
With Xaar 2001 printhead technology, the LabelStream 4000 Series uses a highly pigmented ink to increase colour gamut and deliver enhanced colour brilliance and saturation. Thanks to the recently introduced Orange colour channel, customers can further expand the CMYK range in yellow, red and orange without compromising print speed or reliability, and achieve consistently high output quality.
The certification confirms that label converters can accurately simulate and digitally print a wide range of spot colours on the LabelStream 4000 Series to safely meet customer demands for consistency and quality and open up new application possibilities. This high level of digital-only colour accuracy also supports the transition from conventional to digital production by eliminating the need for lengthy makeready processes to replicate colours that may have previously been beyond digital capabilities.
Crit Driessen, Vice President and Head of Digital Packaging, Canon Production Printing, comments, "When we introduced the Canon LabelStream 4000 Series, we were confident that our press would exceed the colour gamut of many conventional and digital presses for spot colours. The PANTONE® Capable certification proves that LabelStream's wide colour gamut can help our customers achieve the print quality and productivity needed for a sustainable digital label business."
In 2020, the Canon LabelStream 4000 series was also certified by the German Fogra Research Institute for Media Technologies e. V. as the first multicolour digital press to meet ProcessStandard Digital (PSD), based on the 7-colour Fogra 55 reference range.
