Reformkontor GmbH und Co KG, based in Zarrentin on Schaalsee, is the most important supplier for the more than 1,000 health food stores in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The product range includes soft and dried fruits, nuts and oilseeds as well as cereals and pulses. The company redesigned its packaging for the dried fruit segment, relying 100 percent on the benefits of HP Indigo digital printing technology. In partnership with Folienprint RAKO, part of the All4Labels Group, digital printing has enabled the company to simplify processes for the long term.

"Almost 200 items were affected by the packaging relaunch. If we had done this conventionally, the complexity and costs would have been many times higher," recalls Enriko Künstler, Operations Manager Reformkontor GmbH und Co KG. "The production and handling of the printing forms alone would have caused enormous costs and slowed down the process. Digital printing was the only viable option for us.
The films for the bags in the new design have since been supplied by Folienprint. The Gallin-based company is an established player in the production of flexible packaging and shrink sleeves. As early as 2015, the existing range of solutions was expanded and invested in digital printing. "We were excited about the capabilities of the HP Indigo 20000 and working with HP from the beginning. We were particularly impressed by the high print quality and the various options for individualisation and personalisation," confirms Doris Erhardt-Freitag, Managing Director of Folienprint RAKO GmbH.
Also at Reformkontor quality is decisive. Not only with the product quality, but also with the packaging. The potential offered by the quality and fineness of the product images, which can be reproduced in digital printing, also opens up additional design options compared to conventional printing processes," says Künstler. "But even the basics were right: The films run reliably on our packaging lines and are available at short notice thanks to film printing.
The packaging relaunch of the dried fruit range was launched in spring 2018. Already in October of the same year the first products with a new design were on the shelves. The project was completed in May 2019, and a key factor that helps to get the products onto the shelves faster is the uncomplicated proofing process in digital printing, in addition to the elimination of printing plate production. Several motifs can be approved simultaneously and any corrections can be implemented directly. "In the past, we often needed several deadlines for print approvals and every change cost us time and money. Digital printing and foil printing have played a major role in making this relaunch efficient," recalls Künstler.
