Arkay Packaging of Roanoke, VA recently signed for a new Heidelberg Primefire 106 – the second installation site in the US. The 7-color industrial inkjet 40” B1 size digital press will secure Arkay’s position as a technology leader in the luxury packaging market.

Based on the platform of the Speedmaster XL 106, the Primefire 106 integrates seamlessly into offset environments like Arkay’s, which boasts an impressive four XL 106 presses. The Primefire’s direct-to-sheet, 7-color Multicolor inkjet imaging provides for outstanding mapping of the Pantone color space – an important feature according to Arkay’s COO, Walt Shiels. Additionally, its digital printing system offers the highest quality of 1,200 x 1,200 dpi and is designed to achieve volumes of up to 1.5 million sheets per month. With the ability to match offset print quality, the Primefire 106 allows Arkay to choose between printing digital or offset, based on job length.
Arkay Packaging, who serves high-end folding carton markets such as cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and wines and liquors, sees the new purchase as a way to stay ahead of its competition. “At Arkay, we are highly motivated to enhance, develop, and lead into the future with the newest available digital technologies for package printing,” says Shiels.
A loyal Heidelberg customer for years, Arkay also recently installed a new Diana X 115 folder gluer from Heidelberg. “We are proud to have a prestigious company such as Arkay invest in the Primefire,” said Felix Mueller, President of Heidelberg Americas. “With the high-end markets that Arkay serves, this is an exciting venture for them and their customers. I’m eager to see Arkay’s collaboration with their customers’ brand managers for exciting new applications with this leading edge press.”
Arkay Packaging’s Primefire is set to install in March 2020.
