Paper, the most important raw material for THIMM Group. Without paper there would be no corrugated board, the heart of our portfolio.
Over three quarters of the paper used at THIMM is recycled paper (2019: 78.7 %).

When procuring our main raw material, we make sure that the papers we use are certified at least according to the Controlled Wood or FSC® standard. FSC® stands for Forest Stewardship Council®. The label is a globally recognised certification. The proportion of FSC® certified paper has been steadily increased over the course of the financial years and will be over 99% in 2019. With this predominant use of certified paper, we make an important contribution to the protection of biodiversity and the promotion of sustainable forestry. For our customers, the use of FSC® certified paper means an efficient and sparing use of resources.

As an independent, non-integrated company, we can purchase raw paper on the free market. This flexibility puts us in a good position when it comes to paper procurement. We thus have access to a unique mix of materials from our suppliers. This ensures that our customers receive the best papers for their packaging. It also enables us to drive innovations in paper. In this way, we continuously increase the use of environmentally friendly materials.

But which papers do we use? More than three quarters of the papers we use are recycled papers (2019: 78.7%). These papers are also called papers made from secondary fibres. We thus mainly process waste paper into new corrugated board and ultimately into new and more sustainable packaging. The other papers used are virgin fibre papers made from pulp. These papers are mainly used for the production of food packaging.
